 ART, THEATER & JOURNALISM

Welcome to the first semester world of art and journalism.
This semester will be time of great discovery and exploration into these new aspects of your life.  An open mind, a positive attitude and a willingness to learn are absolutely required if you want to make the most of these educational opportunities.

ART 1

CLASS NEEDS:  Three things are required:  $10 art fee, a portfolio (made from one sheet of posterboard folded and stapled on two edges) and an art notebook.  A folder for your art notebook will be furnished which will be kept in the room until time for tests.  You must provide the fee and portfolio.  Please let me know if you are fee waiver approved.

TEXT:  You will not be issued a textbook.  There are texts in the room which you may use in the room, but you may NOT take the books from the room.  The book is ART IN FOCUS. by Gene A.  Mittler.

CURRICULUM:  Art 1 involves art history, art production, aesthetics, and art criticism. We will learn about the artists and trends of the past, learn methods and materials for art production, and learn the criteria for evaluating art to determine what makes effective art forms.
December 8-12
This week we are discussing 19th century art in Europe and then American art through the 19th century.   We will be doing some projects illustrating the variety and experimentation of 19th century art.  We will work with watercolor with plastic wrap, salt and painiting with objects other than brushes.  There will be a test by the end of the week.

JOURNALISM

This class has 2 major tasks each week;  production of the school newspaper and production of a weekly television broadcast.    In order to do those jobs well we need to cover the information in the textbook.  The information will help us with our tasks.  The text is JOURNALISM TODAY by Ferguson, Patten and Wilson.

Students have been given packets outlining all work until the end of the semester--all assignments, the  remaining broadcasts and papers, tests, etc.
